1 halloween 2 costumes

So at work, there's a company wide costume contest. Last year, our office entered the group contest dressed up as the Spice Girls and Run DMC. If I remember right, Run DMC got 2nd or 3rd place. This year... we wanted to win. I don't want to take the credit for it, but if I remember right, I may have been the one to suggest we dress up as Toy Story. We had a lot of fun with it. One of our co-workers (the one in the slinky costume) made almost all of the costumes! I wore a button up and jeans that I already had. My co-worker made the yellow pieces, belt, and buttons with felt. I cut out the chaps and then just safety pinned them on, and the hat comes from the Dollar Tree (my co-worker added the yarn). As of now, we're still waiting to find out if we made the top few. After that, it goes to the rest of the company to vote for the winners. I think we have a pretty good chance of placing if not winning this year!

The night of Halloween Larry and I went to a party at one of his co-worker's house. I'm not usually one to want to just buy a Halloween costume in a bag, but Larry told me we would be going to this party a measley 2 weeks prior, which didn't give me time to be able to make/thrift a costume. I had a few cute couple ideas for Larry and I, but he's no fun and he shot them down quick. :( He doesn't like to be "cute" he wants to be "cool" or scary. I ended up ordering this dress for $25 off Amazon, along with the head piece for $4.

The Monday night before Halloween I had a genius idea. I told Larry I had everything except the wig to be Maddie in the Sia video of Chandelier, and I ran and changed real quick into my nude leotard and tights that I had tucked away from high school dancing days. At first Larry was all against it and thought it wasn't cool... but then some how I talked him into it. He thought it was a cool idea. SO I paid for rush shipping and I ordered the wig and planned to return the flapper dress. Then the very next night, Larry says no way to my Maddie costume idea. I was so mad that he just let me order the wig and NOW he says no...really husband? (note: he doesn't normally have to approve of how I dress, but this was a party with HIS co-workers, so if he didn't think I looked good in the outfit, I wasn't going to put myself out there like that) I was super bummed, but my flapper dress came in that night and it was really cute. So at least i had a good backup costume. I was just so excited that I had actually come up with such a original and creative idea for once, and then no one got to see it. I did put on the whole Maddie costume with the wig and had Larry take my picture in it. After looking at the picture, I'm kinda glad I didn't wear it, because it wasn't flattering.

What did you dress up as for Halloween this year?

  1. Both are super cute! Sorry you didn't get to wear your original idea, but I think the one you ended up in looks great! Last year I was Cruella De Vil (thrifted!), and this year I was Natasha (from Rocky & Bullwinkle), KC dressed up like Boris. It was fun. Pics on the blog! XO -Alexandra

  2. Love the Toy Story get up!!! Sooo cute!! At The Halloween party in Disney World I was Minnie Mouse, at the Halloween Party at the Zoo I was a butterfly and for trick or treating, I was once again Minnie Mouse :)

  3. Love your work group's costume idea!! So clever and WELL DONE. Holy crap. And Maddie in the Sia video would have been amazing, but I understand why you didn't do it...quite the way to meet your husband's co-workers lol might not have been a good experience, though clever and timely, you never know how people will react or if they'll "get it." I really like the flapper look, very cute and "meeting new people" friendly!

  4. Oh my gosh, my friends dressed their baby girl toddler in the sia outfit and videoed her messing up the house (just normal stuff with her food). Anyway, it was freaking hilarious :).

  5. All such great costumes! I don't get the sia reference, but the wig does look like her. You and your co-workers did a great job with the Toy Story look. I don't know how you wouldn't win the competition!

  8. You definitely deserve to win the Halloween costume contest for your job because you guys look awesome! I also love your flapper outfit, you look just like Lady Rose from "Downton Abbey." I went to the "Hello Kitty Con 2014" the day before Halloween and I had to do an Dialogic Reading Assignment at a preschool at UCLA for my ECE 4 class on Halloween, so I went to Ross a few days before and bought a gorgeous caftan. Earlier this year I'd read a book about the fashion icon Nancy Cunard and I wanted to channel her so I tied a black and white scarf around my hair, like a turban, put on the caftan and two huge brass bracelets and dressed like a 1930's bohemian. I'll send you a pic.

  9. Just considering Maddie in Chandelier is VERY creative of you, I am impressed! I was a flapper a few years ago and it may have been my favorite costume ever. It just feels like a cute outfit more than anything! I love seeing your team costumes as well, seems like a fun place to work! You and Larry look great :)
