leggings are not pants

Let's talk about leggings. Leggings are not pants. I will tell you, I have always been the biggest leggings are not pants advocate, but lately I have just had enough of wearing slacks to work, and all I want to do is be comfy and wear legging as pants! I think I just may have found a way around the leggings as pants though. #  1 Your crotch shall be covered. No one wants to see it, trust me.  #2 Your behind shall be covered. The outline of your but cheeks is just gross. Ew.  #3 Proportion- Since I am not covered as much as a dress, I wore tall boots to make things proportionate. I think I would just look naked if I was wearing booties or flats with this outfit.

  1. Haha!! Amen to that! I have to have the front and the back covered comfortably to be able to wear leggings as pants! I love your shress :)

  2. Leggings can be pants in the scenario that, as you said, the front and back parts are covered...or at least you have some quality leggings! Girls at my school wear flimsy leggings, some unfortunately with bright colored thongs. It's pretty disturbing.

  3. You go girl!! I could not agree with you more. And it seems as though I have been seeing more girls wear leggings as pants this year than ever!! It's only cute if you are 5 other than than…cover your BUTT!! Thanks for sharing this post…hopefully more girls come to realize "Leggings are NOT pants"!!!

  6. I've said this a million times! I agree with your rules when wearing leggings as pants. Unless they have the thickness of a jean, don't expose your crotch! haha

  7. Super cute outfit! I totally agree with everything you said in this post! I hate it when people wear them showing their butts. It is so gross and I really could go the rest of my life without seeing it! LOL!

  8. I definitely think you made it work and did right by wearing tall boots and a longer top. I can't stand the leggings as pants fad. It will be a happy day when college girls come to their senses and quit that. Today I unfortunately caught glimpse not only of the outline of the butt, but (ha) a killer wedgie. ewww

  9. Those are the 3 rules I ALWAYS follow when wearing leggings outside of the home (although I rarely wear them with something other than a tunic or dress!) Love this look

  10. I (try) to only wear leggings like this! I'm not comfortable letting all my stuff hang out! LOL! In the summer I like to wear leggings with flats or sandals though.. :)

  11. Just discovered your blog - love your style and tips!!
I love how you styled your leggings here! And I agree 100% with everything you said! If I wear leggings as "almost pants but not tights" I make sure the front and back are fully covered!!!

  12. You are a girl after my own heart. I've been trying to tell my high school students this same thing for years now (to no avail, I might add.) I explain it like this: "They call them leggings, which means I should see only your legs. There is a reason they're not called crotchings or buttings. These are things your clothes should not allow me to see."

  13. I LOVE this outfit! I also love how you've described the leggings/boots thing ... as a rule, I never wear super short dresses, but somehow I feel not so weird wearing a tunic with leggings, as long as I'm wearing tall boots, and now I know why :) Agree 200% with leggings are not pants, too :)

  14. I'm not sure I've tried ever wearing leggings with anything but boots. I feel like boots are a necessary part of the uniform. I WISH I could wear leggings to work most days but my work polo is WAY too short to wear with leggings. Alas, I have to wait for days when I'm working in my office and don't have to wear the ugly polo! Your "shress" is the perfect length for leggings, great dark colors too!

  15. Yeah I completely agree that leggings are not pants but they look so good. We should always buy the leggings in high quality material. I personally love alo yoga pants as well as leggings. Their legging stuff is very thick so there is no problem in wearing them as pants.
