Embrace it

Tights: Old
Boots: Aldo Outlet $40.00
Necklace: Target Old
Total Outfit Cost: $48.49

So I realize that I dress different than the people at my school. Most show up in sweats and tennis shoes. I couldn't if I tried.  Sometimes I go to school and feel self conscious because my outfit is super cute... You're thinking wait does she have that backwards? Nope. For some reason, I get weird looks because I actually think about what I'm wearing. . And  honestly, I know sweats are super comfy and that's why people wear them, but tell me what's not comfortable about what I'm wearing! My outfit didn't take too much thinking either. I may have taken an extra minute out of my morning to plan this. I'd feel weird if I went to school in sweats. It's just not me. I think I'd just want to fall asleep in my desk if I wore them. Getting dressed and looking great for the day makes me feel ready to work! So what I'm getting at here is that I'm going to start to embrace it and not feel self conscious about looking good just because of what my classmates think!  <

Do you ever feel judged or looked at because of the way you dress?

  1. Oh my gosh i LOVE this post. I feel the EXACT same way! Being a college student, I am constantly surrounded by people that dress "bummy" all the time and put absolutely no effort into how they look. While I don't look down on them or think they're sloppy, I can wholeheartedly say that wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt to class is just NOT "me". When I put the extra 10 minutes in to straighten my hair and do my makeup I feel so much better the rest of the day and my confidence goes up by like 150%. I do get weird looks sometimes and you know what? I'm (usually) totally okay with that. If I look good, I feel good, and that's all that matters to me :) So glad I found someone who feels the same way!

B t dubs, i LOVE your outfit. I would totally rock it if it wasnt like 1 degree outside :)

  2. You look adorable! Just keep being yourself. (You also won't have to worry about having to buy an entire new wardrobe when you graduate!)
I had a receptionist job while in college and had to dress up and I didn't have time to change before I went to work. So I was the only fully dressed and made up person in pretty much all of my classes. :)

  3. Your outfit is so adorable. I was similiar to you when I was in school. I loved dressing up everyday. I could not wear gym clothes to school. Be yourself and never change. Oh by the way I am your newest follower from the blog hop. I would love it if you would get the chance swing by the Nifty Thrifty Family sometime. http://niftythriftyfamily.blogspot.com/

  4. I completely agree. I've worn an outfit so similar to what you're wearing. Or even wearing a dress. Or heels. Haha, we gotta stay strong together!! Happy Thursday!

  5. i went to a little liberal arts university in austin and if you wore sweats to class, no one sat by you. if you wore nike shorts, people were whispering about you. heaven forbid if you wore uggs, you probably didn't make it to the next semester.
i caught myself wearing leggings as pants now and again, but only in the hippest-most-fashionable way ever.
i have an outfit really similar to this (grey wool shorts with black top/tights/boots) and i LOVE wearing it! so comfy and i always feel really edgy in it. everyone is just jealous of your boogie.

  6. Cute cute!! I'm so going to recreate this. I work with an office full of men, so I'm always getting funny looks and comments when I wear cute stuff, especially my sparkly toms

  7. Thankfully, my undergrad and graduate schools have both been stocked with pretty well dressed students. I always feel like I'm one of the most "put together" or "dressed up" ones in every class still, but I love it. I love standing out in a crowd so I'd rather stand out because I'm rocking heels rather than standing out because I have sweatpants on. It makes me cringe when I find out people I like wear sweats to class haha!

  8. You look great with this outfit, and I love your attitude about dressing cute instead of just looking like you came from the gym! I fully believe you should be you and not try to just fit in!

  10. I dressed bummy almost every day in college. I dressed up about 1 x per week because I had a presentation or test and it made me feel more confident and focused. Which is probably why I should have dressed up everyday!

    Love your outfit.

  11. Yes, I feel that way sometimes. Usually when I'm trying a new thing or trend--I'm pretty routine-ish in what I wear, so if I wear something that's not my general look I get looked at weird. Not always bad looks, just not used to it I guess. But I agree, I say let them look! They're probably jealous of how incredibly thrifty you are but still so darn cute! Love this outfit! Can't believe the price you got those shorts for! Gah!

  12. I've never gone to class in sweats, and I'm on the verge of graduating. It just feels wrong! Both of the colleges I've attended, I've felt weird about it!

  14. girl this look is SO CUTE. I'm way too self conscious to do the shorts/tights look but I really love it on others. And don't feel bad for dressing great for school - you'll be miles ahead of everyone in the future!
