dressing room diaries: thrifting lately

Ann Taylor Dress: This dress is actually this gorgeous teal color, and you guessed it, it was a definite keeper!

My mom and my sister loved this dress on me and wanted me to get it so bad, but I just saw myself wearing it only once.

Old Navy dress: I remember wanting this dress last year when it was in the store, but if you've been following along long enough, you know that I don't like to pay $30 for a dress. I scored it at Goodwill for on $6. ;)

I loved this dress, but it was too small! I couldn't even zip it in the back!

Target Dress: Too big.

Gahhhh I am kicking myself for not getting this! It was too short to be a dress I could wear to work which is the reason I passed it up.

Target Dress: Definitely looked better on the hanger.

BCBG Maxazria dress: I couldn't get a picture of the whole dress because it was too short in the front (it was slightly high low), but the bottom hem had the same detailing as the top. This dress was so pretty and feminine and soft. It was a total bummer that it was too short!

J.Crew tee $2: I  found this shirt in both hot pink and in black and took them both home because they are super soft and comfy!

This is one trip to the Goodwill! 3 Ralph Lauren v-neck tees, red Gap tank, white Old Navy cardi, red and white striped Gap cardi, and an Under Armor v-neck. All only $4 each!

I also found this Old Navy dress during the above trip, but I passed on it because the seam sat on a weird spot on my hips and it made me look like I had an inter tube around me. Not flattering.

This picture is one day of thrifting with my mom and sista at Plato's Closet and at Goodwill. We definitely racked up!

dressing room diaries: plato's closet & goodwill

Up until a couple weeks ago, I totally forgot that there's a Plato's Closet in my city. I went and decided to take a look around, not really expecting to find much. The Plato's where I used to live was super expensive for a place selling used clothes, so I didn't visit there much. I was really surprised to find that this new Plato's has awesome prices. It's definitely going to be one of my go-to places to shop now. I also want to say that I like how even if something is brand new with tags, they don't up the price on you like at Goodwill (read about my experience with that here). All of their prices are fair! Take a look at what I tried on at my 2 trips there this month...

Gap Wide Leg Trousers: $12
These pants seriously fit me so perfect, and I loveeee them. I've never had a pair of pants from Gap before (obviously because I am far too cheap), but man I have been missing out! I still wouldn't but a pair of Gap pants full price, but now I know that it would be worth catching some on clearance.

Old Navy Blouses: $5 each
These shirts are so perfect for work! I'm usually not one to buy the same things in multiple colors, but these are so versatile and for only 5 bucks, I wasn't passing them up.

Striped Shirt: I don't remember the brand or price
Unfortunately this was too big which is sad because it would have been "the perfect striped shirt." The hunt for one remains...

Next trip...

Floral Dress #1: $12
I have a few things I'll need dresses for this coming summer, so I wanted to get a jump start on trying on some. This one is really pretty, I don't remember my excuse for not getting it.

Coral Skater Dress: $12
This dress was SO comfy and I adore the color. I didn't end up getting it because I thought it was a tiny bit too short. Now if it was like $5? It would totally have been mine.

Floral Dress #2: $10
Another skater dress, still a little too short. I'm so married. I probably would have gotten these short dresses before I was hahah.

Merona Dress: $6
Now that's my kinda price for a dress. This one came home with me. I thought I might wear it with my blue jean jacket to go somewhere for my sister's 18th birthday next month. I may not end up wearing it for that, but heck it was 6 bucks, I'll find use out of it for sure.

Gap Jeans: $12
Since I had luck with pants in my previous trip, I thought I'd have a another look at the pants section. Well whatdoyaknow, there they were, ANOTHER pair of Gap pants right there in.. my.. size! I needed a new pair of dark jeans too, win!

Here is my one quick trip to the Goodwill. I'm trying not to go there much because they overprice too much, and it just makes me angry.
(also, please note that this Goodwill has the ugliest, grossest dressing rooms ever)

Brown Shorts: $3.49
These actually don't look bad in the picture, but in person they were just a litttttle too long. I do try to stick with shorts that aren't daisy duke short because I have a big butt, so short shorts look absolutely ridic on me. I might as well just leave the house in underwear.

Pink Forever 21 Shorts: $3.49
It was love at first sight. They even look pretty good with this outfit!

Gray Pencil Skirt: $3.99
Right before I tried on this skirt, I saw that the zipper was broken. No worries, I didn't love this anyways.

NWT (new with tags) Striped Skirt from Marshall's: $3.99
This was a no all around. The material was awful and unforgiving for us girls with any sort of curves, and it was just too long.

dressing room diaries: goodwill

Forever 21 top: I almost got this! I thought it would be cute with my white high waisted shorts.

IMG_0543
Lace dress $6: This dress is just like my white lace dress that I wear so much, and you bet this came home with me. This is what I'll be wearing on Valentine's <3
IMG_0544
Forever 21 Sweater: Yeah, sometimes brands steer me to try things on... but no this just wasn't cute on.
IMG_0546
No idea what you call this top thing, but it looked vintagey and intrigued me to try it on. It was way too small, and just not cute haha.
IMG_0547
Gap dress: Adorable, right? See below as to why this gorgeous dress didn't come home with me and why it'll probably be stuck at the Goodwill forever.
IMG_0549
You see that little orange sticker that says $35.99? No, that's not Gap sale price... THAT'S THE GOODWILL PRICE. Yeah, you read that right, the goodwill price!! What. the. heck?!?! Really Goodwill? I'm pretty sure NO ONE who shops at the Goodwill is going to ever pay that price. Once I saw that, I seriously thought about leaving everything and just walking out and never returning to that Goodwill ever again. This is just ridiculous. I have nothing more to say about it, or I'm going to get pissed off about it all over again. Lol.
IMG_0550
Learsi Coat $5: This coat is seriously gorgeous! I was SO sad that it didn't fit! Guess what, I bought it anyways. I couldn't let this pretty sit at the mean ole' Goodwill.
IMG_0553
Nine West Jacket: I grabbed this jacket to try on because I thought it might look like a utility jacket. Nope.
IMG_0554
Herman Kay Herringbone Coat $5: Another gorgeous coat! This one fit a little better, so this will be my new winter coat!
IMG_0556
Odd Pale Sweater: I pretty much only tried this on because I knew it would be long enough to wear with leggings. It just wasn't me though.
Please, I gotta know y'all's thoughts on that Gap dress priced at $35.99!!
**Update: I know the pricing wasn't a mistake because there were other name brand things special priced also. There are signs around the Goodwill that say that some items are special priced. I remember seeing an ugly Michael Kors dress priced at $29.99 and a few other things that were new with tags also priced ridiculously. **

thrifting with me!

Last Friday my mom and I stopped at one of our favorite Goodwills on College Drive in Baton Rouge! Here are some of my finds:

Here is headless me and what I wore. Note: I rarely dress like this but this was the day after I spend the night at the hospital with Larry. I still think it's cute outfit though.
Arizona button up: Goodwill $3.49
Limited Jeans: Goodwill $4.99
Sista's Vans: Borrowed
Total Outfit Cost: $8.48

Lookie here, I found a Shabby Apple dress! Too bad it was an extra small and that long center of the dress with the pleated bottom was just unflattering.

Umm JUICY COUTURE Jeans. Too bad they were a tab too tight in my butt and thighs. #foreverbigbuttprobz. They also weren't long enough to be wore with wedges for the spring.

And the top is Lauren Conrad and I got it!

This blazer was pretty but I couldn't think of any bottoms I have that would go with it.
Target dress. Didn't get it and kinda regretting it!

Jessica Mcclintock dress, came with a blazer too all for $12.99. I was thinking the dress would be pretty to change into at the end of my wedding reception, but it just needed too much work. It had a few stains, the metal from the corset was poking me, it would need to be hemmed, and my mom said it made my boobs look (even) smaller. Sigh.

Loveee this blazer. I did indeed get it.
(please excuse my hair)

I also got some black skinny pants from Forever 21 but I forgot to get a picture.

What do you think of my finds?

Thursday Thrift Tip: Try On EVERYTHING

Today's thrift tip is to try on absolutely everything that you stick in your buggy! This tip kind of goes along with the last one (size doesn't matter) because when thrifting you're not going to worry about the size, so of course you need to try it on to make sure it fits. Here are some pictures of my sister, Alyssa, and I's trip to the Goodwill and some of the things we tried on!
Our buggy was full!
Dresses that we both bought... her's is super cute with her camel colored boots!
This dress was pretty.. just too girly girly for me I think.
She thought this shirt was a little too tight.
Ah! LOVE this little vintage dress! But it was too short :(
Flats that sista got.
Love this Banana Republic pencil skirt that I got, but the pocket on the pink tee was just in an awkward spot!
Blurry and ugly picture, but this is our sad faces because these clothes were too small for us.
This is also a good example of today's tip because this fitted tee I have on is a J. Crew size small and was too tight on the boob area, but I have a J. Crew tank that's an extra small that I got at the Goodwill a while back, and it's too big!
This shress (too long to be a shirt, too short to be a dress=shress) was cute on her, but she didn't get it.
This skirt was soooo cute, but it did this whole weird bubble thing as you can see. Sista ended up getting the Lauren Conrad sweater thing I have on here though.

So I hope that you make it to a thrift store soon and try on a buggy full of clothes like we did! Even if you only end up with a few items, it's a ton of fun, I promise!
What are some of your favorite finds of ours?
