spice up you life!

Happy Halloween!!
At work we had a contest among the Louisiana offices for most Halloween spirit. Our office did a  battle of the bands sorta thing. We were the Spice Girls and Run DMC! Of course, since I AM the baby of the office (and not to mention the blonde hair) I dressed up as Baby Spice! The winning office gets a free day of vacation! And ohhh the things we will do for a free day of vacation time!

And here's a little #throwbackthursday (aka #tbt) Halloween edition...

In 2009, I was a flight attendant... Larry was my nerdy date, and at the time we were just two kids who were into each other... who would've thought 4 years later we'd be married??

In 2010, I was the Queen of Hearts and Larry was a werewolf

In 2011, I was living in Orlando, working in Disney World, so my roomie and I went to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. I was Rapunzel and she was Mike. (BTW if you ever get a chance to go to MNSSHP- it is so. much. fun!)

And last year, I was Daphne from Scooby Doo! (you can check out the blog post here)

better on the hanger

IMG_8511IMG_8509
LC Lauren Conrad Blazer: Kohl's $26
Shirt: Target $20 [almost exact]
Pants: Goodwill $3.49
Heels: Target (BOGO) $24
Necklace: c/o Our World Boutique giveaway
Total Outfit Cost: $73.49

You ever put together an outfit in your mind or on a hanger and think to yourself, "man, I am gonna look so fierceee in this!" Well that's initially what I had thought when I put together this outfit on a hanger, but when I actually put it on one morning, it wasn't as fierce as I was expecting. Something about the button up with the blazer felt and looked too bulky to me. Unfortunately I don't give myself enough time in the morning to pick out another outfit, so I was stuck wearing it. Does it look too bulky to you? I love the navy gingham with the coral so I really wanted this outfit to work! What do you think I could change to make it work?

I realized the other day that I have a lot of items in my closet that I just don't wear but I just can't seem to get rid of. Usually, I go through my closet every once in a while and bag up the stuff that I don't wear and then donate it. I'm thinking of selling some of the items that I feel like I may be hanging on to and just don't want to giveaway. Thing is, I'm just not sure on how I should go about selling. Should I post the clothes on here for y'all to shop my closet, and just send the bill through Paypal? Or should I use a site like Poshmark? Any suggestions/tips/help is welcome!! :)

Back in February, I posted an outfit featuring these pants and I mentioned that I was on the hunt for a mustard cardigan to go with them. Well the hunt is over (hopefully)! I ordered this one online a couple days ago. I realllly hope it works out! If it does, I might actually order a few more cardigans, because the price is just right AND free shipping... aka you should go order you some too. One can never have too many cardigans.

I am totally like 2 weeks behind on outfit posts.. oopsie. So if I wear cute things and take pictures of my outfits can someone make my blog posts for me? Any takers?  Lately I really just don't feel like writing blog posts. I love to blog, but I am SO lazy and tired when I get home from work.
Anyways, this outfit is from the cold front we had for 2 very short days a couple weeks ago. Luckily enough another cold front is coming through tonight! Yay for more scarfs and boots and cardigans, oh my! Plus, I don't look like a silly person posting this outfit on a day when it's 80 degrees outside!

my life prayer

I'm not good with words in general, so when it comes to talking about my faith, I really have a hard time saying the right things. A couple months ago I declared "Lift my life up" by Unspoken as the prayer for my life. This song says exactly what my heart is feeling, and I just can't help but to have my own worship session in my car every time this song comes on K-love in my car!

You brought me this far
So why would I question you now
You have provided
So why would I start to doubt
I've never been stranded
Abandoned or left here to fight alone
So I'm giving you control

I lift my life, lift my life up
I give it all in surrender
I lift my heart, lift my heart up
You can have it forever
All my dreams, all my plans
Lord I leave it in your hands

I lift my life, lift my life up
Have your way in me

My sister's style has slowing been evolving into a style of her own... and I have to say I am loving it on her. I've noticed she's been gravitating towards slightly edgy pieces like this top with leather shoulders. She also recently got some camo leggings that I think she will look great in! Camo leggings/pants are just one of those things that I just don't think I could pull off. As y'all know, I'm not the most edgy thing.. or edgy at all, really. I'm so happy to see her style evolving. She never liked to dress like me, so I knew eventually she'd find her very own style!

Sunday my mom and my sister came to Lake Charles to visit Larry and I. Since sista had her fall break Monday and Tuesday they were able to stay until today! Now that I live 2.5 hours from them, I cherish and enjoy every moment I have with them. My mom and my sister truly are my best friends.

My Monday morning started off good with my sister waking up early just to fix my hair for me.. how sweet is that? I can not wait till she's in beauty school and she'll be wanting to try out all kinds of new styles on me! Unfortunately I did have to go to work and I couldn't spend the day shopping with them, but they did meet me for lunch. Larry grilled on Sunday night so they brought left over hamburgers and we ate lunch by the lake. It felt great outside, and the lake made for a great background for outfit pictures! After work we went to Old Navy and then we went to eat Mexican (our favorite). I also got home to see that my mom had washed and folded some laundry for me! Now that's what I call a good Monday... even if I did have to work :)

Remember that time I told y'all to try everything on while thrifting? Well that tip applies to shopping in general. See that hideous green Gumby looking thing right there? Well it was actually super cute on the hanger, and I was totally picturing how cute it could be with some tights and booties....yeahhhhh not.

And check out this Margarita! Is that not the tinyest rita you have ever seen? Totally delish, but way too stinkin' small!

diversity

IMG_8242 IMG_8239
Shirt: Old Navy c/o Chippmunk
Jeans: Old Navy $11.25
Booties: Just Fab $20 (1/2 your 1st pair)
Necklace: Garage Sale $1
Total Outfit Cost: $32.25

This is what I wore last Friday to our meeting at work. It was also our compant diversity day, so we all had to bring in something to share about you or your family that makes you diverse. I really didn't know what to say about me or my family so I brought in a family recipe. It's real American cheesecake. And it's not the kind of cheesecake that you're probably thinking of.. it's 3 layers of yellow cake and then the icing is made with slices of American cheese! Sounds gross, I know, but I promise it's really not! The icing is like a coconut texture. I've thought about sharing it on the blog just so it could get into the whole Pinterest circuit of recipes. I really enjoyed getting to hear all of my co-worker's stories, and the meeting itself was really fun. I'm really so lucky to work for such an awesome company.

So let me tell you how I scored these jeans for only $11.25... I got an email from Old Navy a couple Saturdays ago with a coupon for 50% off one item no exceptions. I had already tried these jeans on a few weeks before, so they were on my wish list for myself, so I once I saw that coupon, this girl was jetting to the store to get my jeans. Along with my coupon I had $10 super cash off of a purchase of $25 or more. With the 50% off the jeans were going to cost $17.25, so I found a shirt that cost $8, so that made $25.25(plus tax of course)...minus my $10 super cash and bam! $15.25 for jeans AND a shirt! That's my kinda deal!

So just so y'all know, I totally DON'T blog in real time... aka this outfit was actually worn early last week. Today I'm actually wearing a SCARF! Yepp, that's what I said! We FINALLY had a cold front come here in Louisiana the past two days.. ok so by "cold front" I mean when I leave for work its like 58 degrees, and then when I leave work its in the low 70's... but still... that's cold to me! Cold enough for me to wear a scarf! That outfit will be up later on in the week.
Hope your week began with fabulous scarf and bootie wearing weather also! :)

utility vest meets lace dress

IMG_8197 IMG_8195
Utility Vest: JCP (clearance) $4
Lace Dress: Forever 21, giftted [similar for only $11]
Belt: Goodwill $2
Heels: Target (bogo) $22
Bracelet: JCP (super clearnace) $2
Total Outfit Cost: $30

Lately I've totally been into mixing super feminine items (like my lace dress and leopard heels) with very non-feminine items (like my vest). This is actually the third time I've worn this vest, but it rained the first two times, so I didn't get an outfit picture. Don't worry, I loved those outfits so much, I'll definitely be re-wearing them and making sure I get outfit pics!

Also, I always get compliments on my bun (the one on top of my head ;), and I just wanted to let y'all know how funny that is to me because any time I have a bun on top my head, it means my hair is super dirty! My bun is the only way I can hide my day 3 oily hair! haha! SO..would anyone be interested in a tutorial on how I do my bun?

Ps. I just looked through some of my old pins on pinterest and found this pin, so that must be where I got the inspiration for this outfit from!

a lesson on bogo

IMG_8202
Cardigan: Target (super clearance 70% off) $5
Dress: Ross $10
Heels: Target (BOGO) $22
Necklace: eBay $10
Total Outfit Cost: $47

So today I'm gonna teach you a little thing about BOGO. Though we'd love if BOGO meant buy 1 get 1 free all the time, but unfortunately most of the time it means buy 1 get one 1/2 off.  I'm one of those people that likes to buy 1 item at a time. I think subconsciously  that my mind thinks I'm not spending as much money that way. So, to me BOGO just means spending more money... which I don't like.

My tip for you for BOGOing is what I did here to get my fabulous new heels for $22. Grab a friend, have them pick out something too, then ring each of your items up together! Wah-lah. Your very own discount without having to buy another item and spending more money! My co-worker and I headed over to Target on our lunch break with our amazing BOGO plan in mind, and she ended up getting these combat boots for $32!

(I finally mastered a because shanna said so instagram selfie!)

I really loved the mint and navy combo I wore a while back, so when I found this top, I knew I wanted to pair it with my mint skinnies!  I really love the outcome of this outfit, and though I'm really not one to re-wear most of my outfits, this will be one of the few I wear again! How do you feel about re-wearing outfits? Do you do it? Or do you try to remix your pieces?
