Thrift Tip

My thrift tip today is for those like me who may become addicted to thrifting. You also should keep this in mind even if you aren't addicted.
Don't buy something just because it's a few dollars!!
You will end up with so many items in your closet that have either been worn once, or not at all. I know this from experience! I'm working on only buying items that I love, and not just saying "oh this is kinda cute, it's only $3, I'll get it." Those $3 add up!

These pictures are from a trip to the Goodwill a couple of days ago and I did good. I found a lot of items that were just okay, but I didn't settle.

Banana Republic Button Up: I liked the color of it, but something about the collar I just didn't like. Isn't that how a men's button up collar is supposed to be?
Purple Old Navy Shorts: These were just a little big on me and could have worked, but again, I need to stop buying things that are just okay.

This top would have been cute with some khaki shorts... or now that I'm thinking of it, it would look good with my yellow jeans. Oh poop. Maybe I should have gotten it?

Lace Heels: These were practically new. They looked like they may have been worn once. Thing is, they were 1/2 a size too big. I carried them around in the store debating if I should get them and just add some little heel pads to make them fit. I stopped myself though. Gahh the shape of them were just so cute!
20130419_150214
Gap Tee: This Gap t-shirt fit good, but I'm just not a red person, unless it's on my lips. I also love fitted t-shirts like this, but I just rarely wear them.
Loft Shorts (tags still on them): The face in this picture explains these shorts. They were just weird. I could not even figure them out.
20130419_150642
J. Crew Shorts: These weren't as orange as they look in the picture, they were more red... but as you seem they were just a little big. The shirt in the picture was way too big too and shear and I didn't have an undershirt on so a picture would have been a little inappropriate.

Ps. Someone please contact Firmoo and let them know I need some new glasses!

coral blazer2
A couple weeks ago I stopped at Kohl's because I had a gift card from Christmas. I'm not usually a designer gal, but ya'll... I LOVE Lauren Conrad's line. I knew I would end up spending my gift card on something from her line. I almost didn't get this coral blazer because I thought the boyfriend jeans and a pretty tank were more practical at the time. Well I didn't have enough on my gift card to get it, but the kind lady behind me used her retail me not app and gave me a 20% off coupon! Heck yes I was getting it then!
I'm so glad I got it. I'm usually not one to re-wear the same things often, but I've already worn this blazer 3 times in the 2 weeks I've had it. I could wear it everyday. I have SO many outfit ideas for it! It was definitely worth my $24 and totally applies to my $20 rule
By the way! Kohl's is offering my readers a 10% off  online coupon code that can be used to stack savings on top of other codes! It expires May 10th.
Use code: BLOGS10 at checkout!

the birthday girl

Rue 21 Dress: Goodwill $4.99
Candie's Blazer: Dirt Cheap $7
Wedges: Goodwill $3.49
Total Outfit Cost: $15.48

Today is Sista Goodwillista's 17th Birthday! Man I wish I was that pretty at 17! She is such an awesome sister, best friend, and maid of honor. I have to say that life sure would have been boring growing up without her! We had our fights growing up, but I wouldn't have traded them for anything because our friendship is better than ever now. I love you sista.
Happy Birthday Alyssa!

I got her the Pitch Perfect soundtrack and oh man I can't wait to jam out in the car with her!
Acca-awesome!

LBD

Dress & Belt: Charming Charlie, Gift Carded
Heels: Shoe Station (clearance) $10
Total Outfit Cost: $10

My sister and I had each gotten a couple gift cards to Charming Charlie this past Christmas. She used some of hers to buy this gorgeous blue dress. After seeing how cute she was in it, I went back and got it in black. There were all different colors in it, but I chose black because doesn't every girl need a little black dress (LBD)? I thought that if I got black that I'd get more wear out of it. I was wrong. This is only the second time I've worn this dress. I'm pretty simple when it comes to shoes. I buy colors that can go with everything, so I don't have some awesome colored heels to fun-up this outfit. I'm just not much of an all black wearing person. Why am I having trouble with a girls' necessity?
How else could I wear this dress?

PS. I normally HATE wearing my hair straight, but I was shockingly having a great hair day!

Okay.. I almost fell on the steps, and decided to pull it off and pose, but what is that face??

save the date

I'm so excited to finally show y'all our save the date!!

Larry and I's friend MJ is a graphic design major, so he designed us these FO FREE
The picture is one of our engagement photos (taken by the amazing Tate Tullier).

So wanna know how cheap they were?
Well I ordered them from Snapfish and at the time they were having a promotion for 5 cent 4x6 prints, SCORE! We hadn't quite finished the guest list yet so I order 200 matte 4x6 prints just to be safe (way too many). So with tax and shipping they came out to a whole $18!

We ordered the 4x6 envelopes from Amazon for $22 for 200.

The total for 200 save the dates was only $40! So cheap!
So when someone tells you it's too expensive to send out save the dates, tell them their crazy and do what I did!

(I only ended up sending out about 100, so postage was like another $50, still not bad!)

Here are some of the other save the date options MJ gave me... Aren't they all great??

wrinkly

Jacket: Old Navy Gifted
Top: Old Navy Gift Carded
Skirt: Old Navy Gift Carded (on sale for $12!)
Sandals: Ross $16
Total Outfit Cost: $16

My mom says that wrinkly isn't a word. She says that I shouldn't say my shirt is wrinkly, instead wrinkled. Nahh. Wrinkly. My shirt is wrinkly in this picture.

So I don't know if you've noticed, but I'm pretty smart when it comes to spending gift cards. I always buy stuff that I know I can't/won't be able to find at a thrift store. I have gift carded my yellow pants, my purple pants, a perfect little black dress, and my trusty fedora. For Easter, the Easter Bunny brought me a dark chambray shirt from Old Navy. It was too big, so I decided to return it. I also was wanting a lighter chambray anyways. Old Navy didn't have the color chambray I wanted, but it did have this striped skirt (on sale whoop whoop) and this top (also on sale!).

I've been wanting this skirt since I saw Lynette in this outfit. I was excited to get it with my merchandise credit and on sale. Then after I saw this shirt and put it on with the skirt, I almost had her outfit! Go check her out by the way. She's flippin gorgeous and her style is so pretty and polished.

interviewed

Two Fridays ago I had an interview in Lake Charles (my future home). It was my second big girl job interview (I had a third last Friday). My mom and sista went with me so that I could show them Larry and I's house. They absolutely loved it by the way!! I wore this outfit for my first interview and got a second interview, which I did not take because it was fully commission. I figured since it was lucky enough to get me a second interview the first time, it would be lucky enough this time... and it was! I have a second interview in two weeks!
The interview I went to last week was yet another fully commission. Ugh. Not that I would take a second interview, but they didn't call me back for one yet and I'm thinking it's cause I didn't wear this outfit. I'm weird and sometimes superstitious.

Blazer: Goodwill $4.99
Banana Republic Skirt: Goodwill $3.49
Button Up: Old
Charlotte Russe Flats: Goodwill $3.49
Purse: Target $26
Total Outfit Cost: $37.97

You can't get much more professional than a black blazer and a white button up, but if you're wondering why I didn't go with a black skirt is because I didn't want to come off as too boring. I want to add some color and personality to my outfit. I went with flats because I didn't have any closed toe plain black heels. I don't think open toe is appropriate for an interview (just in case it goes against the company's dress code policy). I have some cap toe black heels but I think I walk funny in them and that's the last thing I want when I walk into an interview... "How about that girl who walked funny?"

We took these pictures when we met Larry for lunch. I saw this awesome colored wall and knew it would be el perfecto for outfit pictures. I especially love how the wall contrasts so good with my purple skirt!

Sista and I always actin' a fool in public.

No big deal

We just bought a house.. yeah no biggie.
So remember when I told yall that Larry and I were going house hunting? We found our house THAT day! We saw six houses that day. All were about the same price and square footage, but the others were old. And not a good, vintage/cottage style old. Old as in carpet in the bathroom and dining room and purplish-pink kitchen counters. No. Just no.

We drove up to this one and I told Larry that it was the one. We walked in the front door and I said ITS PERFECT!

The kitchen is my favorite part of the whole house. It's absolutely gorg. I can definitely see myself making lots of yummy pinterest inspired recipes in it!

We're closing on the house at the end of this month, and I can't wait! I can't wait to call it our home. Stinks that I won't be able to move in till mid May because it's 3 hours away from school.

I am SO anxious to start Larry and I's life together in this beautiful home. I know that God has an amazing plan with so many great memories in store for this home for us. I can just see little feet taking their first steps in this home. Eeeeek! I know, I know I'm getting way ahead of myself now.

Larry worked so hard to be able to get this house for us and I am so so proud of him. He is an amazing man, and I can't thank God enough for placing him into my life. I want to be the best wife I can to him!

trusty fedora

Fedora: Charming Charlie, Gift Carded
Denim Jacket: Old Navy, Gifted
Tank: Charlotte Russ $3.99
Skirt: TJ Maxx $10
Necklace: Garage Sale $2
Total Outfit Cost: $15.99

I am pretty much obsessed with my fedora (my jean jacket also, but you already knew that).  My fedora makes any bad hair day good and also covers up my unwashed hair. Running late? No need to even brush your hair, just throw on that fedora and go. Trust me, you all need a fedora!

And what do yall think of this necklace? I kinda love it! I picked it up a couple weeks ago at a garage sale. Actually the lady that had the garage sale buys storage units, so she's always selling all kinds of things. I'm hoping to find some more fun stuff from her! My mom got an unopened box of polo cologne for only $25 from her today, and I got my little bro Usher cologne for $10.. birthday present done!

sixteen.

(wish I would've cuffed my sleeves!!)
Target Dress: Goodwill $4.99
Jean Jacket: Old Navy, Gifted
Sandals: Rack Room Shoes, Gifted from the Easter Bunny!
Total Outfit Cost: $4.99

This is what I wore on Easter Sunday. I started off celebrating the resurrection of our savoir by going to church with Larry, his dad, my mom and stepdad.... my sister, Alyssa, went to a different church that morning with her boyfriend. Well, we see a lady my mom knows after church and she says, "Oh this must be the baby!" Referring to me thinking I'm my sister... Do I really look THAT young?! I mean I had just said that morning when sista and I were getting ready that I looked sixteen and she looked 21 (she is actually 16 and me 21). I guess when we're old it'll be to my advantage! Oh and I had on some tall wedges at church! It's not like I was even in these sandals haha. FYI I was too lazy to change back into the wedges for these photos.

yeahlow

Denim Jacket: Old Navy, Gifted
Shirt: Old Navy $3.99
Jeans: Old Navy, Gift Carded
Flats: Forever 21 $18
Scarf: Target $4.00
Purse: Target $26
Total Outfit Cost: $51.96

Ohhh these yeahlow pants.. I just don't know how to style them other than like this and this.  I love the fit of the jeans themself, so I've actually been thinking about bleaching them, and dying them coral. Nicole from Writes like a Girl and I are doing a clothing swap soon with items we have trouble styling. I'm really hoping she'll help me out with these pants!

April 3, 2013

would you be my friend if...

Fedora: Charming Clarlie, Gift Carded
Shirt: Ross $5.99
Jeans: TJ Maxx (clearance) $10
Charlotte Russe Flats: Goodwill $3.49
Necklace: Charming Charlie (clearance) 5.99
Earrings: The Fuller House Resale Shop $0.50
Total Outfit Cost: $25.97

Would you still be my friend if I posted blog photos like this...?

Does anyone else play that game with your friends? My friend Adele and I play would you be my friend if I walked liked this... and then we proceed to walk in really retarded ways. Yes, in public.

My sister, Alyssa, and I like to play would you be my friend if I smiled like this... which usually ends up with a ton of hideous pictures of ourselves.

Larry and I's favorite is would you still be with me if I talked like this... He actually gets generally embarrassed by my retarded self. :P I don't get embarrassed easily, but he does, so it's always fun for me!

This face is my feeling towards mirror pictures.

random ramblings

Gingham: Target $22
Sweater: Old
Limited Jeans: Goodwill $4.99
Pearls: Goodwill $3.99
Boots: $40
Total Outfit Cost: $70.98

1. I just can't seem to find time to write blog posts anymore, and it makes me really sad.
2. I had an interview today and got called back for a second interview, but I'm not taking it because it's a 100% commission position. Nooo thank you.
3. Larry got a slight promotion and transferred to Lake Charles (where we'll be living) this week, so we're 2 hours away from each other until I graduate (May 18th!!). I'll be seeing him every weekend, but I'm used to seeing him every day, so this is going to be weird! It's been a whole 2 days, and I miss him already.
4. If you follow me on instagram, you know that Larry and I got our first furbaby! Her name is Charlie. She is a poodle-bichon frise mix.. I like to say a poochon. She is super spunky & hyper yet very sweet.
5. I wore this outfit one day last week when Louisiana decided it was going to be cold one last time.
6. This is the last you'll be seeing of these amazing white closet doors!! I know yall have got to be tired of seeing them ha. The year lease ended on my apartment so I'm back at my parents house, commuting until the end of the semester
7. I copycated this outfit, but I can't remember who wore it first! Sorry whoever you are, and if you're reading this, tell me so I can give you credit!
8. Charlie just barked for the first time (at Spencer, fighting over a toy). It was the cutest thing ever. It's like hearing your child say her first word... I'm pathetic, I know.
